We are an all-hazards response agency. We respond to structure, grass/brush, and vehicle fires as well as hazardous material spills and fire & carbon monoxide alarms within our Fire District boundaries.
We care about our communities because we are part of our communities. Our volunteer and paid staff live and work in the communities we serve.
The Insurance Services Office (ISO) is a national standard on which all homeowners insurance is based, and we are proud to have lowered our District rating to 4/4Y.
We have paid firefighters stationed in Florence Monday - Friday, 8am-5pm. We also have volunteer firefighters from Florence, Penrose, Rockvale, Coal Creek, and Williamsburg who respond as needed for EMS assistance, structure fires, grass and brush fires, vehicle fires, fire and carbon monoxide alarms, hazardous material spills, and more.
Our firefighters are professionally trained and participate in ongoing training.

Burning Regulations
At this time, there are no fire bans.
If you are conducting a controlled burn on your property, you must call FRECOM Dispatch Center Non-Emergency at 719-784-3411, option 7 to request permission for controlled burning.
What is Allowed During a Fire Ban?
There are different stages of fire restrictions in Fremont County - Stage 1, Stage 2, Stage 3, and Red Flag Days. Learn more about what is allowed during each of these stages using the tabs. Rules and regulations in the San Isabel National Forest or on the Bureau of Land Management Lands may differ.
Keep these important definitions in mind while learning learning restrictions:
Open Fire: Any outdoor fire, including but not limited to, bonfires, campfires, warning fires, charcoal grill fires, fires in wood-burning stoves, the use of explosives, outdoor welding, or operating acetylene or other torch with open flame other than in an area cleared of flammable materials, fireworks, of all kinds/brands, burn barrels, the outdoor burning of trash or debris.
Developed Area: A camping location (site) with designated fixed/permanent structure such as a metal fire ring with grate for campfires and cooking or totally contained within a fireproof container. Also a maintained cleared space around it away from tents, vehicles, and parking areas.
Open Burning: The intentional ignition of unwanted fuels, in place or collected, for the purpose of eliminating those fuels based on methods defined in the Open Burn Plan and permit process.
Agricultural Burning: The burning of cover vegetation for the purpose of preparing the soil for crop production, weed control, maintenance of water conveyance structures related to agricultural operations, and other agricultural cultivation pruproses. THe open burning of animal parts or carcases is not agricultural burning, nor is the open burning of household trash or yard debris on agricultural land.
Red Flag: No person shall initiate or continue to open fire in all areas of Fremont County on a day identified by the National Weather Service as a "red Flag Warning" period. Stage II Restrictions shall be in place during Red Flag periods.
- Individuals responsible for burning must contact FRECOM at 719-784-3411 for permission to burn.
- Open burning is allowed only during daylight hours.
- No open burning is allowed when winds are above 10mph, on red flag days, or during fire bans.
- Materials allowed to be burned are untreated, natural wood (sticks and branches), leaves, dry prairie grass, slash, and weeds. All open burns must be performed in open piles. Buring in barrels or incinerators is not allowed.
- Materials not allowed to be burned are tree stumps in the ground, tires, chemicals, plastic, cut lumber, construction debris, and trash. Burning of these materials produces pollution that is harmful to the environment and the health of you and your neighbors.
- Piles to be burned can be no larger than 8'x8'x8'. If you wish to burn a larger pile, a permit from the State of Colorado must be obtained and a burn plan must be presented to the Florence Fire Protection District prior to burning.
- No open burning is allowed within 50' of a structure. If you are unable to be 50 feet away, a distance of 25' from a structure is acceptable, if the pile size is no bigger than 4' in diameter and 2' high.
- A garden hose connected to a water supply or other approved fire extinguishing equipment shall be readily available for use at the burning site. The hose must reach all areas to be burned.
- Burning material shall be constantly attended by a competent adult, knowledgeable in the use of fire extinguishing equipment. All burned piles must be cold at sunset.
- The Chief or his designee is authorized to require that open burning be immediately discontinued if it is determined to constitute a hazardous condition. This includes smoke from the fire.
- Air quality control commission regulation 9 provides guidelines for oben burning. Burning without a permit or burning of prohibited materials can lead to a sizeable civil penalty of up to $10,000 per day (per C.R.S 25-7-123).
- Recreational fires must be extinguished before 11:00pm.
